The story behindBeyond the Roles
Prior to being a wife and a mother, I was an extremely happy and optimistic young woman with many aspirations.
I was thinking about my future a lot. I was thinking about becoming a wife. I was thinking about becoming a mother. And, as many other young women, I had romantic visions about that. About love, the beautiful times, the family, and happiness.
Becoming a wife did not change my life that much.
But becoming a mother did.
What motherhood actually felt like
Pregnancy, postpartum, and being a mother were not at all what I thought they would be. They made me feel as if I had been knocked off balance and left to find my equilibrium amidst all the changes in the world around me.
Over time, I slowly started transforming into somebody I hardly recognized anymore.
I found my entire life centered around my husband and my three toddlers. I spent my days caring for, providing for, responding to, problem-solving, soothing, feeding, planning, and trying to hold everything together.
And somewhere in all of that, I became a stranger to myself.
The exhaustion
My emotions were all over the place. There were feelings I could not even name. Things I once loved no longer seemed to matter. Some of my dreams became distant. I became confused, not just about what I was feeling, but about what I actually wanted.
Then came the exhaustion.
Not just physical exhaustion, but the exhaustion that comes from being constantly needed, constantly stimulated and rarely having the space to simply be.
My husband supported me in the ways he knew how, and I appreciated that. But I discovered something important: sometimes, there are things only someone who has walked a similar path can truly understand.
A friendship that changed everything
Then I became friends with a mother of two toddlers.
Something about our friendship was different. We understood each other without needing to explain everything. We could talk about our exhaustion, our struggles, the things that overwhelmed us, and even the things we felt guilty for admitting.
Our conversations became a safe place.
We laughed. We complained. We encouraged one another. We reminded each other that we were still women outside of motherhood.
And somewhere within those conversations, we realized something: we needed to take care of ourselves too. We needed to find our sparks again.
Finding my way back
Those conversations became uplifting. They became humorous. They became honest. And little by little, things began to change.
I began to see myself as more than a wife and a mother.
I began reclaiming parts of my individuality. I began pursuing things that mattered to me again. I began remembering the woman I was before the roles became so consuming.
I am not where I want to be yet. But I am taking it one day at a time.
And that is exactly how I envision Beyond the Roles — a community where we do not pressure women to have everything figured out, but where we walk together, one day at a time.
“What about me?”
There was one conversation with my friend that I will never forget. She asked: “What about me?” “Who takes care of me?”
What about me?Who takes care of me?
Those questions stayed with me.
Because beneath the responsibilities, beneath the motherhood, beneath the smiles and the strength we are expected to display, there is still a woman asking to be seen.
How Beyond the Roles began
That conversation made me realize the importance of community.
Sometimes, we don't need someone to fix us. Sometimes, we simply need to know that someone sees us. That someone hears us. That someone understands because they have been there too.
And that was how Beyond the Roles Initiative was conceived in my mind.
Seeing women differently
I began to see women differently. I began to look beyond the forced smiles.
I began to notice the exhaustion behind the “I'm fine.”
I began to see the woman behind the mother, the wife, the daughter, the caregiver, the professional.
And I began to wonder: how many women are quietly losing themselves while doing everything they have been taught to do?
Where that leaves us
Beyond the Roles was born from that question.
It was born from my own journey of finding my way back to myself and from the realization that perhaps there are countless women trying to do the same.
But Beyond the Roles is no longer just about my story. It is about the stories we haven't heard yet.

Beyond the Roles
- We may not have all the answers.
- We may not have arrived.
- But we can walk together.
