Beyond the Roles Initiative is a social-impact organisation creating spaces, programmes and opportunities that help women and girls thrive beyond the roles they carry. Through community, wellbeing, motherhood, faith, research, advocacy, leadership and empowerment, we help women remain fully present in their own lives while navigating the roles they carry.

The question

Who takes care of the woman who takes care of everyone?

She is the one who remembers the appointments, notices who has run out of what, and asks everyone else how they slept. She is competent and she is relied upon, and both of those things are true so consistently that nobody thinks to check on her.

Ask her how she is and she will tell you about her children, or the move, or how work has been. Not because she is hiding, but because the question has not been aimed at her in so long that she no longer has an answer ready.

Beyond the Roles exists to remind her that she is still there.

This is not a crisis. That is exactly why it goes unattended. There is no moment at which anything obviously breaks — she simply becomes less and less present in her own life, and everyone, including her, adjusts.

Beyond the Roles was created in response to a simple observation: women can be deeply committed to the people and responsibilities they love while still needing space to care for themselves, grow, reconnect and become more.

Who we are

Beyond the Roles

Beyond the Roles is a growing social-impact initiative creating spaces where women and girls are seen, supported and empowered to thrive.

We build communities, programmes, learning experiences and research that respond to the realities women and girls face across different stages of life.

We are currently in our founding stage, building intentionally and bringing together women, professionals, researchers, creatives and partners who believe in the vision.

What we believe

We believe you shouldn't have to lose yourself to fulfil your roles.

We believe women can love their families, pursue meaningful work, serve their communities, nurture their faith and carry responsibility without disappearing inside those roles.

Beyond the Roles creates space for women to reconnect with their identity, voice, wellbeing, aspirations and God-given potential.

The roles are not the problem. Being reduced to them is.

Why we exist

The roles aren't the problem. Disappearing inside them is.

Women occupy many roles — daughter, wife, mother, professional, entrepreneur, carer, leader, friend and more.

These roles can be meaningful and deeply fulfilling. But when a woman's identity, aspirations, wellbeing and voice become secondary to everything she carries, something important is lost.

Beyond the Roles exists to help women and girls remain fully present in their own lives — not by asking them to abandon their responsibilities, but by creating the support, community, knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive within and beyond them.

How it all began

How It All Began

Prior to being a wife and a mother, I was an extremely happy and optimistic young woman with many aspirations. Becoming a wife did not change my life that much.

But becoming a mother did.

Somewhere in all of it, I became a stranger to myself. Then a friend asked me a question I have never forgotten: “What about me? Who takes care of me?” That conversation was how Beyond the Roles Initiative was conceived.
